THE CINEMA COMPLEX

Resilience in Cinema – Underground Film Complex Overlooking Beirut’s Port Ruins
A testament to the strength and adaptability of Beirut, this small-scale cinema complex serves as a sanctuary for independent cinema enthusiasts. Situated on a site overlooking the haunting ruins of Beirut’s port, the structure stands as both a defense mechanism and a beacon of cultural revival.
The cinema complex, designed as a robust concrete bunker, draws inspiration from the sturdy concrete silos that absorbed the impact of the blast. The exterior features a winding outdoor ramp that embraces the concrete walls, guiding patrons on a descent towards the underground cinema complex. This descent becomes a symbolic journey, inviting visitors to leave the external chaos behind as they move towards the cinematic sanctuary.
